A thought can arrive with the force of a fact. ‘I will fail.’ ‘They do not care.’ ‘Nothing ever changes.’ Awareness begins when we can notice that a thought is occurring before deciding what it means.
In the Conscious Feeling approach, this is the first movement: observe the experience without immediately suppressing it, explaining it or acting on it. The aim is not to empty the mind. It is to have a little more choice in how you respond.
You might ask: What am I noticing? What is fact, and what is my interpretation? What would I say to someone I cared about who was having this thought?
Arf’s Embrace the Superhuman invites you to meet the observer behind your thoughts. In the Conscious Feeling approach, that inward attention becomes a starting point for meditation, intention and a different relationship with life.
Bring it into your day.
Write down one recurring thought. Begin the next line with ‘I am noticing the thought that…’ Then choose one small action consistent with what matters to you.
